Seeking Writing Program Operations Intern for Winter 2021!

Catapult’s writing program is seeking a full-time intern to provide bookkeeping and data support for our team. This six-month position will span either December 2020 through May 2021 or January 2021 through June 2021. The internship will pay $15/hr.

While this will begin as a remote position, we are seeking applicants based in New York City who will be able to work in our Manhattan office if it’s safe for us to return before May/June. Access to the internet and availability to work Monday - Friday, from 10 am - 6 pm ET, are essential.

The intern will work closely with the writing programs team, which offers a wide variety of writing courses that serve a rapidly growing community, but will also have opportunities to work with other departments, such as Catapult Magazine, on an as-needed or regular basis. Duties will vary widely day-to-day, but we rely on our interns for time-sensitive, essential work.

Responsibilities will include:

• preparing financial data for analysis by our team using Google Sheets and Google Analytics;

• ensuring timely completion of payment processes for instructors, vendors, and contributors in coordination with our finance department, often using PayPal and/or Stripe;

• documenting department expenses and student registrations and other transactions using Google Sheets;

• maintaining prompt and professional email communication with a high volume of students and instructors around transactions;

• and various related administrative tasks.

The ideal candidates will be exceptionally detail-oriented, organized, passionate about discovering and implementing more efficient and transparent practices and systems, and interested in learning about writing education and publishing. A high level of skill with Google Sheets (or Microsoft Excel), PayPal, Stripe, and/or Google Analytics is a major plus, but the intern will have the opportunity to learn new software and systems, as well as data management and budgeting skills. The intern may also participate in cross-company meetings at Catapult that serve the development of their skills and any immediate or long-term professional goals. A college degree is not required.

Candidates who also have social media and/or IT support experience and interest, a willingness to learn about our online classroom platform, and occasional availability on nights or weekends (in place of other hours) will receive careful consideration, but social media and IT support are not required components of this internship.
