NYC: Hope to see you at the Soft Skull party this Sunday at The Kitchen!

We’ve had a good year and we want to celebrate. Luckily for us, this week is the Brooklyn Book Festival. Catapult and Soft Skull Press are excited about the events we have planned throughout the weekend.

One particular event stands out among the rest, and we want you there: On Sunday, September 17th, Soft Skull is hosting five of our authors for a free(!) evening of readings, drinks, music, and revelry. Join us at 6:30pm at The Kitchen, 512 West 19th Street, New York, NY 10011.

The lineup:

Chelsea Martin is the author of Everything Was Fine Until Whatever, The Really Funny Thing About Apathy, Even Though I Don’t Miss You, Mickey, and, most recently, Caca Dolce: Essays from a Lowbrow Life. Martin’s work has appeared in the Poetry Foundation journal, Hobart, and Lenny Letter. Nylon Magazine recently chose Caca Dolce as its September book club pick, saying, “It’s a wild ride of a memoir, and a true glimpse into the mind of an artist as she’s figuring out what life is all about.”

Eileen Myles is a poet, novelist, performer and art journalist whose books include Afterglow (a dog memoir), a 2017 reissue of Cool for You with a new introduction by Chris Kraus, I Must Be Living Twice: New and Selected Poems, Chelsea Girls, and Inferno: A Poet’s Novel.  The recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in nonfiction, a Creative Capital/Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, four Lambda Literary Awards, the Shelley Award from the Poetry Society of America, and the Clark Prize for Excellence in Arts Writing, Myles teaches at New York University and Naropa University and lives in Marfa, Texas and New York.

Novelist, short story writer, and cultural critic Lynne Tillman is currently Professor/Writer-in-Residence in the Department of English at the University at Albany and teaches at the School of Visual Arts’ Art Criticism and Writing MFA Program. Tillman’s newest fiction masterpiece Men and Apparitions is forthcoming from Soft Skull Press in March 2018. Tillman is the author of five novels, three collections of short stories, one collection of essays, and two other nonfiction books. She is also a 2014 National Book Critics Circle Award finalist in Criticism for What Would Lynne Tillman Do?

Jillian Weise is a poet, performance artist, and disability rights activist. She is the author of The Amputee’s Guide to Sex, reissued by Soft Skull Press in September 2017; The Colony; and The Book of Goodbyes, which won the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets and the Isabella Gardner Award from BOA Editions. Her work has appeared in A Public Space, The Huffington Post, and The New York Times and many other publications. Weise is the recipient of residencies and fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center, the Fulbright Program, the Lannan Foundation, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is an Associate Professor at Clemson University.
