This is a class devoted to workshopping the writing of every student in a safe and nurturing environment. Come with your best writing or your most unpolished writing and we, as a group, will guide you toward the finish line.
Over our class’ six weeks, we will read and discuss one another’s work. Whether you’re looking to hone writing that’s been sitting on your desktop for months or dipping your toes into fiction for the first time, this class will adjust to the group’s interests and needs, drawing craft lessons directly from the issues, questions, and serendipities that arise in your work.
Each student will submit to the workshop twice and meet with the instructor once for an individual conference. Writers will leave with more confidence in their own writing, feedback on two stories, and a stronger sense of how to craft compelling fiction.
Class meetings will be held over video chat, using Zoom accessed from your private class page. While you can use Zoom from your browser, we recommend downloading the desktop client so you have access to all platform features.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
Students will read the writing submissions for the week and will write a workshop letter for the student(s) submitting that week. Workshop submissions should fall somewhere around 5-15 double-spaced pages.
COURSE SKELETON:
This is a workshop-intensive course and all of class time will focus on workshopping and reviewing student work.
Okezie Nwọka was born and raised in Washington, D.C. They are a graduate of Brown University, and attended the Iowa Writers' Workshop as a Dean Graduate Research Fellow. They are presently teaching and living in their hometown.
