Literary magazines are a vital part of the world of publishing, but—let’s face it—the submission process can be confusing, time-consuming, and demoralizing. This bootcamp aims to clear up some of that confusion by giving participants an inside look at what happens after they press that submit button. In addition to reviewing the dos and don’ts of the submission process, we will talk about ways to organize your submissions, resources for discovering new magazines, and writing strong cover letters. Participants will leave confident and ready to get their work out into the world!
Lena Valencia is the director of educational programming and managing editor of One Story. She has held positions at A Public Space and BOMB Magazine, and taught classes at The New School and Sackett Street Writers. Her writing has appeared in Joyland, Epiphany, BOMB, the Tiny Nightmares anthology, and elsewhere.
